The Baby Safe Program provides parents with evidence-based guidance on safe sleeping, recognising signs of an unwell baby and baby first aid

The Baby Safe Program Deluxe Package offer you all the features of the program in one package.

The Baby Safe Program Deluxe package combines hands-on learning in a small group class, virtual learning (live and interactive with A/Professor Rose Boland), video resources and online learning.

The Deluxe package includes:

Module 1: Safe Sleeping to reduce the risk of Sudden Unexpected Death in Infancy

Suitable from 28 weeks of pregnancy onwards

This module covers:

  1. Safe Sleep Environment for babies 0 to 12 months
  2. Reducing the risk of Sudden Unexpected Death in Infancy (SUDI), including SIDS
  3. Safe wrapping (swaddling) for sleep and to promote normal hip development
  4. Use of a safe sleeping bag
  5. Dressing your baby for sleep
  6. Thermal stress (over-heating) and how to avoid it
  7. Use of baby carriers and baby slings
  8. Car seats, car capsules and car travel with a newborn baby
  9. How to determine which nursery products are safe for your baby
  10. Nursery products that are unsafe for babies and pose a risk of SUDI, including SIDS

Mode: Two options are available:

  • Virtual (live and interactive with A/Professor Rose Boland via zoom) OR
  • Face-to-face in a small group class held at Prahran High School, Windsor.

Module 2: Recognising and responding to an unwell baby

Suitable from 32 weeks of pregnancy onwards

This module covers:

  1. Normal baby behaviour
  2. Behavioural cues your baby is becoming unwell
  3. How and when to take your baby’s temperature and interpret the results
  4. Fever and other variations of normal temperature
  5. Breathing and colour
  6. Jaundice
  7. Vomiting and posseting
  8. Rashes
  9. When and where to seek help if you are concerned about your baby

Mode:

  • Face-to-face in a small group (limited to 8 couples)
  • Taught with Module 3 on the same day

Module 3: Baby Basic Life Support

Suitable from 32 weeks of pregnancy onwards or any time in the first 6 months after your baby is born

This module covers:

  1. Indications for calling 000 for an ambulance
  2. Baby cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (baby CPR)
  3. Management of choking
  4. Management of febrile convulsions
  5. Button battery ingestion
  6. Bath and water safety

Mode:

  • Face-to-face in a small group (limited to 8 couples)
  • Taught with Module 2 on the same day

Baby Safe Program Video Series and online learning (one year unlimited access)

  • Safe Sleeping to reduce the risk of Sudden Unexpected Death in Infancy
  • Safe swaddling (swapping) to promote normal hip development
  • Baby Basic Life Support (Baby cardio-pulmonary resuscitation )
  • Management of a choking infant (on food and on milk)

  • Red Nose Safe Sleeping brochure
  • Red Nose Safe Wrapping brochure

  • Recognising signs of an unwell baby information sheet
  • Kidsafe Button Battery brochure
  • Royal Life Saving Society Keep watch at bathtime brochure
  • Evidence-based apps and websites for a range of Baby Safety resources

7.5 hour program:

  • 2- 2.25 hours virtual or face-to-face (Module 1)
  • 3.5 hours face-to-face (Modules 2 and 3 are taught together)
  • 2 hours of online e-learning (including video resources and self-tests)

Cost of the Baby Safe Program

$225 per person

$450 per couple

(Inclusive of 10% GST & booking fee)

(Valued at $665 – you save $215 per couple)

  • Limited to 8 couples per class (16 attendees max)

To book your Baby Safe Program Deluxe package:

  1. Choose your preferred date to attend Modules 2 and 3 (taught in one 3.5 hour session) – This is located on the top right hand corner of this screen.
  2. Book your place. Please book a place for each person attending.
  3. Once you have booked, you will receive an email with detail about how to select a date to attend Module 1 (Safe Sleeping), which is included in the cost of the Deluxe Program.

Meet the Director:

Associate Professor Rosemarie Boland : Director: Precious Care Australia

PhD, Master of Nursing, Registered Midwife, Registered Nurse

A/Professor Rosemarie Boland a newborn educator, neonatal intensive care nurse and midwife with over 30 years’ experience. She specialises in providing first aid training for expectant parents, and parents and families of newborn babies and ex-premature infants. In addition, she develops training programs, clinical practice guidelines and resources for medical, nursing, midwifery and paramedic healthcare professionals in Victoria in her role as a statewide perinatal educator with the newborn emergency transport service.

A/Professor Rose Boland has over 35 peer reviewed publications, has written text book chapters and helps develop guidelines for Ambulance Victoria around obstetric and newborn emergencies.

The Baby Safe Program was developed by A/Professor Rose Boland. All face-to-face, Deluxe Program classes and private sessions are taught A/Professor Rose Boland.
