About this event

Join Melbourne Working Holiday Girls for our Book Club Social!

MWHG Book Club – Let’s Talk Books! 📚

Love reading and dying to discuss your latest read? Come join us for an evening chatting all things books with like-minded Working Holiday Girlies!

Each session we pick a book to read beforehand, then meet up to share thoughts, opinions, and all the moments we loved (or didn’t!). Whether you’re a casual reader or a total bookworm, everyone’s welcome.

This session’s genre theme: Thriller / Mystery 🔍

This session’s book: The Couple Next Door by Shari Lapena

You don’t have to finish the book before the session – but fair warning, there may be spoilers!

Paper copy or audiobook – either is totally fine.

What to expect:

🥂 Included Glass of Fizz on Arrival – Enjoy a glass of fizz when you arrive to help kick off the evening.

💬 Book Club Icebreakers – We’ll run four fun, book-focused icebreaker games to get everyone chatting about favourite characters, plot twists, hot takes, and everything you loved (or didn’t!) about the book.

🛋️ Cosy Book Chats – A relaxed and friendly environment to meet fellow book lovers and make new friends while chatting all things reading.

🤍 Reserved Area – We’ll have a space reserved just for our group so everyone feels comfortable and can easily mingle.

🍸 Food & Drinks Available – Additional drinks and food will be available to purchase on the day if you’d like to stay a little longer.

💬 Instagram Group Chat: You’ll be added in to our general Thriller Book Club chat one day before the social! Meet girls coming to the social and be in a chat with other girls that LOVE thriller in melbourne!

📚 Optional Blind Date with a Book (Thriller Edition) – Bring along a thriller/mystery book you’d love someone else to discover! Wrap it so the cover is hidden and write a vague plot description and genre on the outside (no spoilers!). At the end of the session, everyone will randomly choose a new book to take home. Inside your book, include a small note with your thoughts and your Instagram handle so you can chat more about it after reading.

What’s not included:

📖 Book discussed in session – please grab your own copy of Then She Was Gone (paper copy or audiobook) online, from your local bookstore, or library before the event.

🎀 Optional Blind Date Book – This is optional, but highly encouraged! Bring along a wrapped thriller/mystery book you’d love to recommend and share with the girlies.
