New Subjects and Final Year for Syllabuses
The 2026 HSC written exam timetables have been released, allowing around 80,000 students in New South Wales to access their schedules from 9am today. This release marks a crucial point in the academic year for students, teachers, and families across the region.
The exams will run over an 18-day period, beginning with English Paper 1 on 13th October and concluding with Physics in the morning of 5th November. In total, there are 124 written exams scheduled, covering a wide range of subjects, which demand thorough preparation and planning.
New for 2026, students will sit the Health and Movement Science exam for the first time. This exam replaces the previous PDHPE syllabus for Years 11 and 12, reflecting updates to the educational curriculum to better meet students’ needs.
This year also marks the final time students will be examined under the current English and Mathematics syllabuses. Next year, new versions of these syllabuses will be introduced, signifying a shift in the educational landscape.
Preparations and Practical Exams
Before commencing their written exams, many students will have already completed practical and performance assessments during Term 3. Oral exams for over 50 language courses will take place starting in August, providing students with diverse examination experiences.
Paul Martin, CEO of the NSW Education Standards Authority, emphasised the importance of the timetable release: “The release of the HSC written exam timetable is a significant moment for students as they progress through their final year of school.”
He further encouraged students to focus on their preparation while prioritising their wellbeing: “We wish the HSC Class of 2026 every success and encourage them to prioritise their wellbeing as they prepare for their exams.”
The full timetable and additional exam schedules are accessible on the NESA website. Meanwhile, schools receive customised timetables through Schools Online, ensuring that all educational institutions are well-prepared for the upcoming exam period.
Having access to the exam timetable supports students in organising their study schedules effectively. This ensures they can approach the exam period with confidence and clarity. Such transparency is vital for reducing stress and allowing students to allocate their study time wisely.
The 2026 HSC timetable release represents a significant step in the educational journey, providing certainty and focus for students, teachers, and families as they prepare for this important stage of schooling.
