Olympian supports trauma recovery through equestrian event
SYDNEY — Amanda Ross, a renowned Australian equestrian and former Olympian, has announced her return to the Tour d’Horse 2026 as an ambassador for the KIDS Foundation. The event, which will take place from May 11 to 17 in the Upper Hunter Valley, is a major fundraising initiative aimed at supporting children and families impacted by trauma.
Ross, who first participated in the event last year, expressed the profound personal impact the experience had on her. “It’s one of those experiences where you feel like you receive more than you give,” Ross stated. Her role as an ambassador aligns with her advocacy for using horses in trauma recovery, a cause she feels deeply connected to after overcoming breast cancer at 31.
Amanda Ross’s Impact and Involvement
The Tour d’Horse is the flagship fundraiser for the KIDS Foundation, which provides programmes for trauma recovery and equine-assisted wellbeing. This year’s event aims to build on the $1.17 million raised in 2025. Amanda Ross‘s involvement highlights the event’s focus on showcasing the adaptability of retired racehorses and their role in therapeutic settings.
Dr Susie O’Neill, CEO of the KIDS Foundation, praised Ross’s leadership and dedication. “Amanda represents everything Tour d’Horse stands for — resilience, connection, and purpose,” she said. The event underscores a broader trend of integrating retired racehorses into therapeutic programmes, reflecting a growing recognition of their value beyond the racetrack.
