Local Manufacturing Takes Centre Stage

Celebrations for Australian Made Week 2026 began at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) on 18th May. The event highlighted the crucial role of Australian manufacturers in creating the AFL’s official goal posts.

Produced by Australian Made licensee Abel Sports, the goal posts exemplify the extensive reach of Australian manufacturing. These products benefit the supply chain and community significantly.

John Cann, General Manager of Abel Sports, praised the local production efforts across their supply chain. “Our goal posts and flag poles are installed across the country, including at the MCG, Adelaide Oval, and SCG,” he said. “While the product is ours, it relies on the craftsmanship and manufacturing expertise of a broader local supply chain.”

Impact on Employment and Community

Direct employment at Abel Sports includes 15 people, while the broader supply chain involves more than 6,000 individuals. Meanwhile, representatives from Capral, A.R.C, and C-Tech Laser showcased their collective effort in Australian manufacturing at the event.

Emphasizing the significance of supporting local manufacturers, Australian Made Chief Executive Ben Lazzaro stated, “During Australian Made Week, we shine a light on homegrown creators like Abel Sports. Choosing Australian Made can have a huge impact.”

Running from 18th to 24th May 2026, Australian Made Week encourages consumers to learn more and find certified products at australianmadeweek.com.au. Sharing Australian Made purchases on social media using #AustralianMadeWeek is encouraged.

Broader Economic Impact

Recent Roy Morgan research indicates that if each household spent an extra $20 a week on Australian Made products, an additional $11 billion would be generated. This could create close to 20,000 new jobs, significantly boosting the economy.

Supporting local businesses throughout the year is crucial. Consumers are encouraged to look for the green and gold kangaroo logo, which signifies a product is genuinely Australian Made.
