AI Gaining Popularity in Health and Nutrition

On 22nd June 2026, a survey revealed that 47% of Australians now trust advice from AI more than from friends or family. This shows the increasing comfort with technology in daily decision-making.

MyFitnessPal, a global nutrition and food tracking app, commissioned the survey. It shows that 44% of Australians have used AI for coaching or guidance. Health and nutrition are the most common areas for its application.

According to the survey, nearly half of those surveyed, 48%, have turned to AI for advice in health and nutrition. This indicates a growing trust in AI over traditional sources.

Michaela Sparrow, a nutritionist and MyFitnessPal ambassador, explained, “With artificial intelligence becoming a more prominent part of the way we live and learn, it’s no surprise Australians are turning to AI tools to help answer questions and seek advice.” She emphasised the importance of context in nutrition guidance, stating that advice should reflect individual goals and needs.

AI in Everyday Life

Australians are seeking advice that is both personalised and readily available. Thirteen per cent of respondents cited outdated information as a limitation of traditional coaching. Meanwhile, 12% noted a lack of availability when support is needed.

To address these needs, MyFitnessPal launched AI Coach, an in-app feature offering tailored, real-time insights into users’ nutrition data and habits. This new feature helps users understand their food choices and build healthier habits.

Michaela Sparrow added, “By combining food logging with personalised insights, users can better understand the choices they’re making and identify practical steps to build healthier habits over time.” The AI Coach aims to support everyday nutrition decisions, whether at home or on the go.
