Over $23,000 Raised for Dementia Australia

Last weekend, the Ballarat community gathered for the 2026 Memory Walk & Jog, showing strong support for those impacted by dementia. More than 190 participants walked, ran, and jogged, raising a remarkable $23,610 for Dementia Australia.

Professor Tanya Buchanan, CEO of Dementia Australia, expressed her gratitude to the participants and volunteers. She stated, “The incredible turnout from the Ballarat community supports the many people affected by dementia across the country.”

This event was one of 14 Memory Walk & Jog events planned across Australia in 2026. These events aim to bring together people impacted by dementia and their supporters to raise funds and awareness. They also promote physical activity, which is linked to reducing the risk of dementia.

Dementia Australia supports over 446,500 Australians living with dementia, along with more than 1.7 million people involved in their care. The organisation advocates for positive change and supports research to improve lives impacted by dementia.

Professor Buchanan acknowledged the vital role of volunteers, saying, “The day was only possible through the hard work of our wonderful volunteers, who always make Memory Walk & Jog a safe, fun, and memorable experience.”

For those who missed the Ballarat event, there is an opportunity to participate through the MyWay initiative. Individuals can organize their own walks or jogs by selecting a date and location and registering on the Memory Walk website.

Dementia Australia provides trusted information and services. Anyone impacted by dementia can contact the National Dementia Helpline at 1800 100 500 for support. An interpreter service is available for those who need assistance.

The Ballarat event highlighted community spirit and dedication to a significant cause, making a positive impact on both local and national levels.
