About this event
On the longest night of the year, the Sorrento Foreshore becomes something else entirely.
Now in its third year, the Sorrento Solstice Festival is one of the Mornington Peninsula’s most distinctive winter events: a two-day celebration of the solstice that draws together fire, community, and the wild beauty of the front beach in June. At the centre of it all is Bernie, a large-scale fire sculpture that lights the foreshore sky on the night of the 20th.
A taste of the activities:
Solstice Zone: sound healing, crystals, and silent disco
Family Zone: giant bubbles, facepainting, ice-cream
Lantern Path: Lanternist glowing animals along a path from town to the foreshore
Stages: Live music and DJ sets
Lantern walk: A guided walk from town with self made lanterns
Food and Drinks: Range of food, alcoholic and non-alcoholic options
Burning Effigy: 6-metre tall burning structure that is a sight to be seen
On Sunday morning, the festival closes with a Dawn Swim at 7am, followed by a communal breakfast on the beach.
This is the kind of event that provides a proper community atmosphere, of fun and excitement for all ages.
The Sorrento Solstice Festival transforms the foreshore into a vibrant celebration of community and art, with the stunning backdrop of the bay adding to the magic. Locals love the blend of activities, from live music to the enchanting lantern walk, making it a must-visit on the winter calendar.
