Strum and Sing Ukulele Group! (Free event)
This weekly event is for both seasoned and new ukulele players who want to strum and sing in a relaxed and informal group setting.
About this event
If you have even a passing interest in music, this free Thursday evening ukulele group at Flemington-Kensington RSL is a relaxed way to meet fellow locals and pick up some new skills. Bring your uke, your voice or just your curiosity for a session that’s as much about chatting over a pub table as it is about playing.

This weekly event is for both seasoned and new ukulele players who want to strum and sing in a relaxed and informal group setting. If you are new to musical instruments, this is a perfect opportunity to learn some practical skills quickly and in a supportive environment! if you don’t have a ukulele, spare ukuleles can be reserved (via https://facebook.com/melbourneukulelecommunity). We meet weekly so do check the website for the “Theme of the Week” and for any last-minute updates. Please note that there are usually no sessions during school holidays.
Typically, there are 30 people at every session, and about a third are beginners. If you are a complete beginner, the most important part of the session is the first 20 minutes where I go through some easy songs. Try to be present between 6:00 to 6:20pm if you are a beginner! The session is free-of-charge, but there is a donation box at the front if you want to contribute to our operational expenses. Thank you and hope to see you one day!
Kensington has a real neighbourhood feel and the RSL here is known for being friendly and unpretentious, so you can expect a supportive crowd and plenty of encouragement whether you’re a total beginner or just a bit rusty. People drift in after work, ukes in hand, and the vibe is low-key with lots of laughter between songs. You don’t need to know anyone or read music to get involved, and the group welcomes all ages-just be ready for a few classic singalongs and some genuine community spirit. This is ideal for anyone who wants to dip their toe into playing music socially, without pressure or cost. Unlike some music meetups around town, you don’t need to audition or sign up in advance, and the spare instruments mean you don’t need to own a uke to join in. Sessions are relaxed, so if you’re nervous, you’ll be in good company.
