International Perspectives and Personal Testimonies
Lived experience witnesses and international experts will testify at a public hearing for the House Social Policy and Legal Affairs Committee’s inquiry into domestic, family, and sexual violence and its relationship with suicide on Friday, 26th June 2026.
The inquiry aims to explore the frameworks surrounding the intersection of domestic violence and suicide. Testimony will come from those who have directly experienced these issues. The Committee values these personal accounts to better understand systemic impacts, according to Committee Chair Ms Louise Miller-Frost MP.
Ms Miller-Frost stated, “When considering the frameworks surrounding the intersection between DSFV and suicide, it is critically important to hear the voices of those who have lived through these horrific circumstances.”
International experts in DFSV and suicide will also present at the hearing. These experts will provide an international comparison with reporting systems in the United Kingdom, offering insights into different approaches.
Parts of this hearing may be conducted in private and not broadcast. Observers are reminded that the hearing will cover material that may be distressing.
Scheduled from 8:30 am to 4:00 pm at Committee Room 1R5, Parliament House, Canberra, the hearing’s programme is available on the inquiry website. The session will be streamed live on the Australian Parliament House Streaming Portal.
