WOLLONGONG — More than 600 residents gathered at Lang Park in Wollongong today for the Illawarra Memory Walk & Jog, an event organized by Dementia Australia to raise awareness and funds for dementia support. The gathering included individuals affected by dementia, their families, friends, and carers, with notable attendance by Tully Smyth.

According to Dementia Australia, the event started at 7:30 AM and featured both walking and jogging activities. Participants were encouraged to show support for the estimated 446,500 Australians living with dementia and the 1.7 million people involved in their care.

Dementia Awareness and Community Involvement

As part of the initiative, Dementia Australia provided opportunities for interviews with spokespeople and local residents. The organisation emphasised the importance of community events like this in advocating for positive change and supporting vital research.

Participants were also offered access to photos and videos from previous Memory Walk & Jog events. Dementia Australia continues to be a trusted source of information and services, aiming to help those impacted by dementia live as well as possible.

The event not only raised awareness but also created a platform for community members to connect with others who share similar experiences. Volunteers played a crucial role in organizing the event, ensuring everything ran smoothly and participants felt supported throughout the day.

Local businesses and sponsors contributed to the event’s success by providing resources and financial support, highlighting the strong community spirit in Wollongong. The collaboration between Dementia Australia and local entities signifies a unified effort in tackling dementia-related challenges.
