Piccolo Teatro in Rankins Lane combines live magic, cabaret and theatrical storytelling, with audiences seated just metres from the performers.
A 32-seat magic theatre hidden in Melbourne CBD’s Rankins Lane has sold out performances week after week since opening.
Piccolo Teatro Magic Theatre presents live magic, cabaret and theatrical storytelling in a small venue where every audience member sits close to the stage. Guests can also enjoy a glass of wine during the performance.
Located at 5 Rankins Lane, the theatre draws inspiration from European cabaret salons and New York supper clubs. An opening date was not specified.
Piccolo Teatro was created by FISM World Champion of Comedy Magic Sam Angelico alongside Julia Madotti and Richard Vegas of Raconteur Productions.
Just 32 Guests Per Performance
The theatre’s limited capacity places guests just metres from the performers, reducing the separation normally found between a stage and its audience.
“We wanted to create a venue that feels intimate, immersive and distinctly Melbourne. With just 32 seats, every audience becomes part of the performance, allowing people to slow down, connect and experience something they simply couldn’t in a larger theatre,” Raconteur Productions co-founder Julia Madotti said.
Angelico has performed internationally across a career spanning decades. Madotti is a magician, playwright, designer and producer who has presented solo shows in Japan, Hong Kong and Berlin.
Vegas is a magician, actor and theatre director. He is a NIDA graduate, has been nominated for a Green Room Award and co-founded Raconteur Productions with Madotti.
The independent production company has created theatre, cabaret and immersive productions for more than 25 years. Its production The Paris Underground Cabaret toured nationally for more than a decade.
