Project Milestones and Strategic Developments
QPM Energy Limited has received two GE Vernova LM6000 gas turbines in Brisbane, marking a critical development in its 112MW Isaac Power Station project in Queensland’s Bowen Basin. The turbines, secured under a fixed-price contract in June 2025, are now in storage ahead of transport to Moranbah. This strategic acquisition allowed QPM to avoid global supply chain delays and cost increases.
An independent valuation has assessed these turbines at US$100 million, representing a 40% premium over the purchase price, highlighting their strategic value.
QPM has achieved several milestones for the Isaac Power Station, including securing key development and environmental approvals from the Isaac Regional Council and the Queensland State Government. The execution of a Connection Project Delivery Agreement with Powerlink Queensland will facilitate the grid connection. Approximately $138 million has been invested in development costs by March 2026.
CEO David Wrench stated, “It’s tremendous to see these turbines in Queensland ready for the Isaac Power Station. QPM and Queensland are fortunate to have these GE Vernova units available to help power our future given the global boom in AI and data centre energy demand.”
The company anticipates that the Isaac Power Station will significantly support Queensland’s energy requirements amidst increasing demand spurred by industrial electrification and data centre expansion. In addition to the turbine arrival, QPM has arranged a financing facility to fund the capital cost of the project’s construction. This financial arrangement underscores the momentum behind the project’s development.
The Isaac Power Station is strategically positioned in Queensland’s resource-rich Bowen Basin, reflecting its role in supporting the state’s future energy needs. Industrial electrification and expanding infrastructure are key drivers of this demand. The project’s development momentum accelerated following the successful arrangement of a financing facility to cover construction costs, further cementing its progress.
QPM Energy aims to play a pivotal role in Queensland’s energy landscape, particularly in light of rising electricity demands from artificial intelligence infrastructure and data centre expansions. The recent arrival of the turbines is a testament to QPM’s commitment to advancing the Isaac Power Station’s development, ensuring readiness to meet future energy needs.
Overall, the strategic acquisition and timely arrival of the GE Vernova turbines position QPM Energy to effectively contribute to Queensland’s energy sector, leveraging its location in the Bowen Basin and securing its place in the future energy market.
These developments align with the broader industry trends of increasing energy demand and infrastructure expansion, making the Isaac Power Station project a crucial component of Queensland’s energy strategy.
Following the project’s completion, the power station is set to provide substantial energy resources to meet the state’s growing industrial and technological power needs.
QPM’s proactive steps in securing vital equipment and ensuring financial backing illustrate its dedication to fostering sustainable energy solutions in the region.
As a result, the Isaac Power Station project not only represents a significant investment in the local economy but also signifies a forward-thinking approach to energy development in Queensland.
