About Results
Results International (Australia) is a non-profit advocacy organisation working to create the political will to end poverty and advance a fairer, healthier and more sustainable world.
We work with communities, advocates, parliamentarians and partners to influence Australian policy and investment across global health, international development and other issues that have a significant impact on people experiencing poverty and disadvantage.
About the opportunity
We are looking for a reliable and detail-oriented volunteer to support our database and administration work, while gaining practical exposure to the broader work of an Australian advocacy organisation.
While the core of the role will focus on helping us maintain accurate, high-quality records, we want this to be a valuable learning and development opportunity too. The successful volunteer will have opportunities to gain insight into areas including campaign planning, policy and advocacy, fundraising and partnerships, events and government relations.
Where possible, we’ll invite you to relevant team meetings, campaign discussions and activities, giving you the chance to see how advocacy campaigns are developed and delivered, how organisations engage with decision makers, and how a small NGO works behind the scenes.
Good data and record keeping underpins all our work. It helps us maintain strong relationships with our advocates, supporters and partners, track our advocacy and fundraising activity, and understand the reach and impact of our campaigns.
This opportunity could particularly suit a student, recent graduate or someone looking to build practical experience in the not-for-profit, international development, advocacy or public policy sectors.
What you’ll be doing
Working alongside the Results team, you may support activities such as:
- Entering and updating advocate and supporter data, including information collected through events, campaigns, sign-ups and other engagement activities
- Keeping records of communications and engagement with advocates, supporters, partners and other stakeholders up to date
- Ensuring funding applications, funder information and related correspondence are accurately recorded
- Reviewing and updating existing database records to improve accuracy and consistency
- Helping maintain the overall quality and integrity of our database and administrative systems
- Supporting other light administrative and data-related tasks as required
About you
You don’t need to be an expert in databases to apply. We are looking for someone who:
- Has strong attention to detail and takes pride in accurate work
- Is organised, reliable and comfortable working independently
- Is confident using common digital tools and systems
- Is comfortable working with spreadsheets and entering or reviewing information
- Understands the importance of confidentiality and privacy when handling personal and organisational information
- Has an interest in advocacy, international development, global health, public policy or the not-for-profit sector
Experience with databases or CRM systems would be helpful but is not essential. Guidance and support will be provided.
Confidentiality and privacy
This role will involve access to personal and potentially sensitive information relating to our advocates, supporters, partners and organisational activities.
The successful volunteer will therefore be required to:
- Sign a confidentiality agreement before commencing the role
- Undertake a police check, with the cost fully covered by Results
- Handle all personal and organisational information in accordance with Results’ privacy, confidentiality and data-handling requirements
We will provide appropriate guidance on securely accessing, handling and recording information as part of the volunteer’s induction.
What you’ll gain
Alongside practical experience in database management and administration, volunteering with Results will provide an opportunity to:
- Build experience within an Australian NGO and advocacy environment
- Gain exposure to campaign planning, policy and advocacy, fundraising, events and government relations
- Learn how advocacy organisations engage communities and decision makers to influence policy
- Participate in relevant team meetings, campaign discussions and activities where possible
- Develop practical experience that can support future study or employment in the not-for-profit, international development, advocacy or public policy sectors
You’ll work alongside a small, collaborative team and gain an understanding of both the public-facing and behind-the-scenes work involved in delivering effective advocacy and campaigns.
Commitment
We are open to discussing a volunteering arrangement that works for both the volunteer and Results. The role can be undertaken flexibly and remotely, with regular support and check-ins from the Results team.
