Celebrity Support for Humane World Initiative
Actor Kevin Bacon has temporarily renamed himself Kevin ‘Bean’ to launch Beansday. This initiative by Humane World for Animals encourages people worldwide to replace meat with beans every Wednesday.
The initiative, announced on June 18, 2026, promotes a simple dietary change that can significantly impact animal welfare, environmental health, and personal well-being. It encourages global participation by highlighting the benefits of plant-based diets.
Kevin Bacon, known for his dedication to animal welfare and living on a 40-acre farm, stated, “Over the years, I’ve developed a deep connection with animals. One simple change in what you eat every Wednesday makes a difference for animals. And if becoming Kevin Bean for a little while helps get people involved, I’m all in.”
Impact on Animals and Environment
Beansday aims to address the suffering of billions of animals in the food industry and the environmental damage caused by animal agriculture. This sector accounts for at least 16.5% of global greenhouse gas emissions, similar to all forms of transportation combined.
Kitty Block, president and CEO of Humane World for Animals, emphasised the initiative’s mission: “Beansday reflects our mission to tackle the root causes of animal suffering by making it easy for anyone to take a meaningful step for animals each week.”
Participants can join the movement by pledging on the Beansday hub. This platform offers recipes and guidance to make the transition to a plant-based Wednesday simple and enjoyable. The hub also features contributions from plant-based chefs and food influencers.
Across the global food system, 97.6 billion land animals and 27.9 trillion aquatic animals are kept and killed annually for meat, dairy, and eggs. These practices often cause fear, stress, and injury to animals, which are treated as commodities.
