Consumer Action Law Centre lawyer joins committee on 1 July
2026
Life CCC has appointed Anna Meulman as its new Consumer Member, and she will join the committee on 1 July 2026. Meulman is a Managing Lawyer at Consumer Action Law Centre, where she leads consumer and financial services work for a team assisting individuals and community workers across Victoria.
Life CCC said Meulman brings experience in consumer law, financial services, complaints handling and advocacy for vulnerable consumers. The independent body monitors compliance with the Life Insurance Code of Practice and works to maintain consistent service standards for consumers.
Chair Jan McClelland AM welcomed the appointment. McClelland said, “Anna brings a strong understanding of the issues affecting consumers, including vulnerable consumers, in the financial services sector.”
McClelland added, “Her experience in consumer advocacy, complaints handling and legal assistance will be valuable as we continue our work monitoring compliance with the Code and promoting fair outcomes in the life insurance industry.”
Experience in consumer advocacy
As a consumer advocate, Meulman has represented vulnerable customers in complex disputes involving consumer law, life insurance and funeral insurance. She also contributed to the Financial Services Royal Commission.
Meulman also helped strengthen insurance expertise across the financial counselling and community legal sectors through training and engagement. That work supported lawyers, counsellors and community workers dealing with insurance issues.
Outgoing member acknowledged
Meanwhile, Life CCC also thanked outgoing Consumer Representative Alexandra Kelly. McClelland said, “Alexandra has made a wonderful contribution to our work since the Life Insurance Code of Practice came into effect in 2017.”
McClelland added that Kelly helped ensure consumer perspectives were reflected in the committee’s work on promoting and monitoring compliance with the Code. She also said, “We thank Alexandra for her service and her longstanding contribution.”
The Life CCC has three members: a Consumer Member appointed by the consumer members of the AFCA Board, an Industry Member appointed by the Council of Australian Life Insurers, or CALI, and an independent Chair appointed jointly by AFCA and CALI.
After Meulman joins on 1 July 2026, the committee will continue monitoring the Life Insurance Code of Practice. According to Life CCC, that role aims to improve service standards and build trust in the life insurance industry.
