Community Raises Funds for Dementia Support

Last weekend, more than 2,930 participants gathered in Melbourne for the 2026 Memory Walk & Jog, successfully raising $465,243 to support those impacted by dementia. This impressive turnout highlighted Melbourne’s commitment to the cause.

Melbourne residents showed their dedication by braving the rain to walk, run, and jog. Their efforts were commended by Dementia Australia CEO, Professor Tanya Buchanan, who expressed gratitude for the community’s support.

“There was an incredible turnout from the Melbourne community this year yet again, in support of the many people impacted by dementia across the country,” expressed Professor Buchanan.

Volunteers and Community Engagement

Numerous volunteers contributed to the event’s success. Professor Buchanan praised their dedication, saying they make the Memory Walk & Jog a “safe, fun and memorable experience for everyone who takes part.”

This event is one of 14 Memory Walk & Jog events held across Australia in 2026, offering opportunities for people affected by dementia and their supporters to come together. Each event promotes fitness and community solidarity while raising necessary funds for dementia support.

Dementia Australia provides trusted information, education, and services for over 446,500 Australians living with dementia and the more than 1.7 million involved in their care. They advocate for positive change and support vital research.

For those who missed the event, Dementia Australia encourages organizing individual or group walks through the MyWay initiative. Participants can choose their own date and location to support the cause.

Interested individuals can find more information on organizing a MyWay event by visiting www.memorywalk.com.au/get-involved/mw.

Dementia Australia is dedicated to supporting people impacted by dementia, enabling them to live well. For assistance, contact the National Dementia Helpline at 1800 100 500. An interpreter service is available, funded by the Australian Government.

The Memory Walk & Jog events not only raise funds but also raise awareness about the importance of brain health. Research suggests that staying active can help reduce the risk of dementia.

“It’s been really moving and encouraging to see the community supporting Dementia Australia’s vital work by raising funds and awareness, as well as moving for their brain health,” said Professor Buchanan. The community’s involvement is crucial for advancing research and improving lives.
