Three August concerts set for Sydney and Melbourne
Satu in the Beyond will play three August concerts, with one show in Sydney and two in Melbourne, ahead of the debut album Far Field Theory.
In Sydney, the band plays on Thursday 20 August at 7pm. The venue is The Neilson, Pier 23, at Walsh Bay Arts Precinct.
Melbourne follows on Friday 21 August with two shows at The Night Cat, 137-141 Johnston St, Fitzroy. Those sets start at 7pm and 9:30pm.
Tickets for the Melbourne dates go on sale on Monday 15 June through The Night Cat website. Meanwhile, the briefing directs fans to the band’s Instagram account for updates.
Far Field Theory is due in August 2026. Satu Vänskä announced the album with the live dates for Satu in the Beyond.
Satu Vänskä and Far Field Theory
Vänskä is an internationally known violinist and Principal Violin with the Australian Chamber Orchestra. Since the group formed in 2022, it has built an enthusiastic cult following.
The project grew from ACO Underground, the orchestra’s late-night offshoot. It later developed into a full band.
The music blends electro-industrial pop with punk influences. Strings, synth, distortion and rhythm sit at the centre of the live sound.
Satu in the Beyond features Vänskä on violin and vocals, Richard Tognetti on electric violin, Paul Beard, Bree van Reyk on drums, Kiah Gossner on electric bass and Ollie Thorpe on electric guitar.
Its influences range from Marianne Faithfull to European modernism, American minimalism, and German and Japanese electronica.
Vänskä said: “As we continued to evolve from the ACO Underground project, we realised there was more and more original material written by Richard with more electronic instruments involved than acoustic ones… and it became liberating. We created our own sound with the sonic mix of the old and new.”
Vänskä began violin lessons at age three in Japan. After her family moved to Finland when she was 10, she later joined the ACO in 2004.
Since joining the orchestra in 2004, she has called Australia home for more than 20 years. However, this project pushes beyond the band’s chamber roots.
