Australian Startup Expands with Irish and UK Support
MELBOURNE — Scopey Onsite, a construction technology startup founded by Australians Jenna Farrell and Gillian Laging, has secured €523k in funding from investors in Ireland and the UK. The announcement was made this week as the company aims to enhance its AI-driven platform, which converts WhatsApp messages and voice notes from construction sites into structured data records.
Founded in 2022, Scopey Onsite initially started operations in Australia before relocating its headquarters to Ireland. The pre-seed funding round was led by SFC Capital with support from Enterprise Ireland. Jenna Farrell, CEO of Scopey Onsite, emphasised that the platform is designed to help construction teams capture site events in real-time, reducing disputes caused by incomplete information. She stated, “Scopey Onsite will allow construction teams to correctly capture site events fast, reduce disputes caused by incomplete information, and prepare substantiation with confidence.”
Impact on the Construction Industry
Gillian Laging, COO of Scopey Onsite, highlighted the importance of utilising familiar communication methods to streamline operations. “Since crews are already texting, we use chat-based workflows and agentic AI to turn that into structured data, so the right information reaches the right people faster,” she explained. The funding is seen as a significant step not only for the company but also for the Australian construction sector, which faces challenges such as skills shortages and the need for efficient documentation processes.
Niall Casey, Senior Market Advisor at Enterprise Ireland Australia & New Zealand, remarked that the support for Scopey Onsite comes at a critical time. “With disputes, claims, and retrospective substantiation consuming significant commercial resources, contractors are under pressure to improve how evidence is captured at the source before costs escalate,” Casey noted.
