New Campus to Enhance Western Sydney Education

The University of New South Wales (UNSW) has announced a $65 million investment to establish a multi-faculty campus in Parramatta. This expansion aims to extend the university’s educational reach in Western Sydney over the next decade.

According to UNSW’s Vice-Chancellor and President, Professor Attila Brungs, the initiative is central to the university’s mission to improve social equality and economic prosperity by providing greater access to quality education. He stated, “Modern universities are not behind ivory towers but integrated across communities. When 56% of all higher education enrolments in Sydney are in Western Sydney, the case is clear: world-class education should meet people where they are.”

UNSW has signed a new lease in Parramatta as part of its broader Western Sydney Precinct expansion. This move will support long-term impact and educational access across the region.

First Programme Launch in 2027

In 2027, courses at the new Parramatta campus will commence. The first offering will be a Juris Doctor postgraduate programme from UNSW’s Faculty of Law & Justice, ranked first for Law and Legal Studies in Sydney by QS and Times Higher Education.

Professor Andrew Lynch, Dean of UNSW Law & Justice, expressed enthusiasm for the campus’s potential to facilitate learning and professional engagement in Western Sydney. He said, “We bring experienced academics and a strong reputation with employers, and we’re looking forward to contributing to, and learning from, the local community.”

Basma McCredie, a recent graduate of UNSW’s Juris Doctor programme, highlighted that the new campus will save students from long commutes and foster a more diverse legal profession in Western Sydney. “I am thrilled to learn that a world-class education is now close to where we live. This campus will save students hours of commuting, time that can be better spent studying, working or with our families,” she said.

The new Parramatta site will accommodate up to 350 students daily. UNSW will continue investing in the development of its Western Sydney Precinct, supporting long-term impact and access to education across the region.
