SYDNEY — The University of New South Wales (UNSW) has achieved a significant milestone with 39 subjects ranked in the global top 100, according to the 2026 QS World University Rankings by Subject. Notably, UNSW’s Engineering & Technology disciplines have been ranked first in Australia for the ninth consecutive year. This achievement reflects the university’s consistent dedication to providing high-quality education and research opportunities.

The rankings, released this week, highlight UNSW’s continued excellence in various fields, with Mineral & Mining Engineering securing the third spot globally. Professor Bronwyn Fox AO, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research & Enterprise), emphasised the importance of these rankings, stating that they reflect the dedication of the UNSW community in maintaining high standards in both research and teaching. The university‘s focus on innovation and collaboration has been a driving factor in achieving such prestigious rankings.

Diverse Achievements Across Faculties

The university’s success spans multiple faculties, with the Law programme achieving an impressive equal 13th position worldwide. In the field of science, Environmental Sciences, Psychology, and Earth & Marine Sciences were among those ranked in the top 50. Architecture / Built Environment was placed 33rd globally. Professor Julien Epps, Dean of UNSW Engineering, noted the faculty’s leading position in Australia, attributing it to the commitment of researchers and educators. The faculty has been pivotal in fostering an environment where students and staff can thrive and push the boundaries of traditional engineering and technological solutions.

The QS Subject Rankings, which evaluate academic reputation, employer reputation, and research citations, analysed over 6,000 institutions across 55 subjects this year. These results underscore UNSW’s robust performance on the international stage. The university’s ability to adapt to changing educational landscapes and its emphasis on sustainability and global impact further contribute to its success. UNSW continues to be a beacon of academic excellence and innovation, attracting students and scholars from around the world.
