Celebrating Influential Women and Supporting DVConnect

Footlights Theatrical Inc presents the musical revue ‘Well-Behaved Women’ at Brisbane’s PIP Theatre from June 5 to 6. The performances aim to provide both entertainment and support for DVConnect, a Queensland service aiding women affected by violence and abuse. Audiences will enjoy a unique experience that also allows them to contribute to a vital cause.

Spotlight on Historical Figures

Carmel Dean, a Grammy Award-winning Australian composer and lyricist, created this inspiring revue. The production shines a light on remarkable women from history, such as Frida Kahlo, Cleopatra, and Julia Gillard. Featuring some of Southeast Queensland’s finest musical theatre talent, the show uses a song cycle to narrate the journeys of influential artists, activists, athletes, and leaders.

Directed by Roslyn Johnson, the musical merges storytelling with social impact. Audiences can donate directly to DVConnect during the event using QR codes available at the venue, providing a seamless way to contribute to the cause. The revue invites guests into a world of trailblazers who defied societal norms and made a lasting impact.

The stories of figures like Mary Magdalene, Cathy Freeman, and former Australian Prime Minister Julia Gillard are highlighted, showcasing their courage and influence. On June 4, a special preview performance will occur. Invited guests can attend by donating a minimum of $10 to DVConnect, in lieu of a standard ticket price. This initiative offers further support to the essential work carried out by the organisation.

Roslyn Johnson emphasised, “‘Well-Behaved Women’ is a celebration of strength, resilience, and individuality. These stories deserve to be heard, and we’re proud to bring them to Brisbane audiences while also supporting the vital work of DVConnect.”

The production not only entertains but underscores the importance of women supporting women. It encourages standing up against violence and abuse, making it a powerful call to action for attendees. As audiences enjoy the performances, they are also reminded of the significant roles women have played and continue to play in shaping history.

Tickets for the musical revue are available at piptheatre.org/well-behaved-women. This event offers a platform for raising awareness about important issues while celebrating the achievements of extraordinary women. The musical is set to be an empowering and unforgettable experience for all who attend.
