Soccer and Science Unite for Cancer Awareness

BeOne Medicines has launched a global cancer care awareness campaign, 'One Save Changes Everything', featuring former U.S. soccer goalkeeper Tim Howard. The initiative was announced on 20th May and aims to highlight critical moments in cancer care.

The campaign connects the precision and resilience seen in goalkeeping to the ongoing efforts in cancer research and treatment. It seeks to inspire by highlighting the importance of preparation and perseverance in both fields.

BeOne Medicines, a global oncology company, is backing the campaign with a $300,000 community commitment. This will fund the installation of soccer mini-pitches near cancer treatment centres in partnership with the U.S. Soccer Foundation.

John V. Oyler, Co-Founder and CEO of BeOne Medicines, stated, "Just like soccer is defined by save after save, progress in cancer is built moment by moment – in the lab, in the clinic, and in the communities where patients and families face it every day."

Tim Howard's Personal Connection

Tim Howard's involvement in the campaign is deeply personal. His grandfather was diagnosed with cancer when Howard was a child, instilling in him the values of presence and resilience. Howard's record 16 saves against Belgium in 2014 serve as a metaphor for the campaign's message.

Howard explained, "The moments that matter most aren’t always the ones people see. Watching my family support my grandfather taught me that being present, prepared, and willing to act can change everything."

Additional international goalkeepers will join Howard to support the campaign, alongside voices from the cancer community. The initiative will also involve BeOne's 12,000 employees, who will contribute to charitable support globally.

Ed Foster-Simeon, President & CEO of the U.S. Soccer Foundation, noted, "Soccer has a unique ability to bring joy and connection in the most difficult moments. Placing mini-pitches near cancer centres creates permanent, accessible spaces for the families who need them most."

The campaign 'One Save Changes Everything' officially launches today. More information is available at BeOneSave.com.
