AI-Native Integration for Legal and Compliance

On 13th May 2026, Carta announced the acquisition of Avantia, marking the launch of Carta Law. This development creates the largest AI-native legal solution for private capital, aiming to unify legal and compliance workflows with fund operations on one platform. Private capital firms previously struggled with fragmented infrastructure. Fund administration, compliance, and legal services often caused delays across separate vendors.

Deal teams experienced significant waiting times due to NDAs. Limited partner onboarding faced setbacks from KYC backlogs. General counsels lacked transparency into legal spending. With growing regulatory complexities, these issues became competitive disadvantages for firms.

“Avantia built the best legal and compliance product for private capital, and now we’re making it foundational infrastructure,” said Henry Ward, CEO of Carta. “The largest PE firms in the world pay top-tier law firms for high-volume, routine legal work. They shouldn’t have to.”

Streamlining Fund Operations

Carta Law delivers three core capabilities: speed with institutional verification, institutional-grade legal review at scale, and agent-orchestrated workflows across fund operations. These features aim to eliminate operational delays and enhance legal and compliance efficiency.

Avantia is trusted by over 200 global asset managers, including 30% of the world’s largest funds. It supports transactions involving more than $15 trillion in assets. By integrating Avantia’s AI workflow engine, Ava, into Carta’s ERP, firms can streamline and unify operations, creating a single-platform solution for all fund operations.

James Sutton, CEO of Avantia, stated, “We founded Avantia in 2019 on a contrarian bet that AI could deliver legal and compliance outcomes, not just assist with them.” This vision aligns with Carta’s goals.

Existing Avantia clients will continue to receive services. They can now integrate Carta Law, which connects legal and compliance with fund administration and other essential operations. The integration offers a seamless transition to a more efficient system.

Following the model Carta used with cap tables, valuations, fund taxes, and fund administration, every action leading to a record can be traced to a legal action and compliance check on the same platform. Compliance decisions are made more efficient and transparent.
