Agentic AI to Enhance Industrial Efficiency
Cognite, a leader in Industrial AI, has teamed up with ABB to integrate advanced AI capabilities into industrial applications, aiming to streamline processes and enhance efficiency. This collaboration was announced on 21st May 2026.
Focusing on an agentic layer, the partnership incorporates this into established ABB applications like ABB Ability SafetyInsight and AlarmInsight. The integration aims to enable 'agent-to-agent' orchestration, revolutionizing operations in the energy sector.
Norwegian energy producer Aker BP is the first to adopt this technology, as part of its strategy to boost production efficiency and reach a target of 525,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day by 2028.
Benefits of the Collaboration
The integration aims to dismantle traditional data silos, offering faster workflows by automating complex processes like risk assessments and alarm rationalization. This approach is set to accelerate analysis and decision-making by allowing applications to interpret data autonomously and trigger cross-system actions.
Paula Doyle, Chief Digital Officer at Aker BP, highlighted the benefits, saying, "This agentic framework allows us to scale our digital strategy, moving us closer to our goal of deploying hundreds of agents by 2026, all working in concert to solve complex workflows that were once highly manual."
Gino Hernandez, Head of Global Digital Business at ABB’s Energy Industries Division, commented on the initiative: "By integrating critical industrial applications with an agent-to-agent orchestration model, customers can prioritise critical interventions, accelerate decision making, and reduce risk to enable safer and more reliable operations."

The collaboration also aims to convert data into actionable business value by breaking down data silos and shifting to outcome-based software orchestration. This promises significant business value for ABB, Cognite, and their customers, including Aker BP.
