NSW Blues Ready for Tough Competition

Colby Edgar, a 20-year-old bull rider from Tamworth, is set to debut in the PBR Origin Series. Today’s official announcement confirmed his selection for the NSW Blues team.

The 2026 PBR Australia Monster Energy Origin Series kicks off on May 30 in Newcastle. It will then move to Brisbane on June 6 and wrap up in Sydney on August 1 at the TikTok Entertainment Centre.

After their historic 2025 victory, where NSW defeated Queensland 500.25 points to 419.50, the Blues aim to defend their title. The upcoming series promises intense competition, with Queensland eager for revenge.

Queensland’s lineup features reigning Australian Champion Kurt Shephard from Mareeba and top talents like Macaulie Leather and Donnie Rutherfurd, who recently returned from successful campaigns in the US.

The Blues, meanwhile, boast experienced riders such as Sam Woodall, Clint Glass, and Dylan Weir, alongside Brazilian talents Keny Roger and Alison Aguiar. Colby Edgar will join them in his Origin debut.

Leading Queensland is coach Jared Borghero, a former bull rider and tough protection athlete. Lachlan Richardson, a seven-time PBR World Finals qualifier, will lead the Blues.

Junior Riders to Take the Stage

The series will include junior riders from the 2025 PBR Australia Can-Am Junior Academy. Young talents aged 9 to 17 will compete in Newcastle, Brisbane, and Sydney, showcasing the next generation of bull riders.

Glen Young, PBR Australia Managing Director, said, “There’s nothing in Australian sport quite like Origin. In bull riding, it’s eight seconds of absolute chaos where every ride matters.”

Tickets for the PBR Monster Energy Origin Series are on sale now. Fans can attend events at Newcastle Entertainment Centre, Brisbane Entertainment Centre, and the TikTok Entertainment Centre in Sydney.

Last year’s Sydney decider was one of the most dramatic nights in Australian bull riding history. The Blues stormed to victory with six qualified rides to the Maroons’ five. Now, the rematch is on. Following the excitement of 2025, both teams are more determined than ever.

Adding to the excitement, the Queensland Maroons feature fan favourites like Zane Hall, Boston Leather, and Ben Bode, all from Calliope. Meanwhile, the Blues hope to leverage the skills of Jack Rowlandson from Oberon and Lachlan Slade from Tamworth.
