Exploring Solutions Beyond Coral Bleaching

The Australian National Maritime Museum is excited to present ‘Beyond The Bleach’, a panel discussion on June 10th, as part of Vivid Sydney’s Minds program. This event seeks to address the critical issue of coral bleaching affecting the Great Barrier Reef.

Meet the Experts and Advocates

This engaging panel features former triple j and ABC Sydney breakfast host Adam Spencer, who is known for his work in mathematics and media. Marine biologist Emma Camp, who leads the Future Reefs Team at the University of Technology Sydney, will also join the discussion.

Brian Robinson, an artist from the Torres Strait, will provide cultural insights, while ecologist Ben Fitzpatrick will share scientific perspectives. Emily Jateff, the Museum’s Senior Curator, will moderate the session.

Emma Camp has been recognised globally for her contributions to reef conservation, notably through the Coral Nurture Programme which works on repopulating corals in affected areas of the Great Barrier Reef.

The event starts at 6 PM and will take place at the Australian National Maritime Museum. Tickets are available starting at $30. Attendees will have the opportunity to explore the Museum galleries after hours.

Following the panel, guests are invited to the ‘Sea Citizens After Party’, a gathering with live music, hands-on activities, and the chance to meet with speakers and fellow ocean advocates.

Supported by Rolex through their Perpetual Planet Initiative, launched in 2019, the discussion integrates scientific insights and cultural perspectives to create effective conservation strategies. This initiative collaborates with leading bodies like the National Geographic Society and Mission Blue, funding vital expeditions and research aimed at ocean conservation and climate action.

The Perpetual Planet Initiative focuses on supporting explorers, scientists, and organisations dedicated to understanding and protecting the planet’s life-support systems. It emphasises ocean conservation, wilderness protection, and climate action.
