Crown redevelopment to deliver 15 new venues and a major Riverwalk upgrade
Crown Melbourne has commenced a $200 million redevelopment of its Southbank precinct, marking its largest investment in nearly thirty years. The Crown redevelopment will introduce more than 15 new restaurants, bars and casual eateries. Additionally, the project includes a major revitalisation of the Riverwalk and expanded public open space.
The redevelopment will create approximately 2,000 construction jobs across the life of the project. Furthermore, Crown will deliver additional outdoor terrace dining and implement a large-scale green energy transformation program. Construction and detailed design work are underway, with staged openings scheduled from mid-2026 through to 2027.

Crown will introduce new local restaurateurs and international brands to the precinct. Victor Churchill, described as one of the world’s most celebrated butchers, will open a new venue in mid-2027. The venue will feature Yarra River views and focus on steak dining.
A new riverside gastropub will open directly onto the Yarra waterfront. The venue will offer elevated pub-style dining in a contemporary setting. During the day, guests will access casual dining and sporting broadcasts, while at night, the venue will transition into a nightlife destination.
Entertainment and sustainability upgrades under Crown redevelopment
Entertainment infrastructure forms a central component of the Crown redevelopment. The Palms is under renovation and will relaunch as Crown Live Theatre in November 2026. The theatre will accommodate 1,250 guests and include a new balcony space for pre-show gatherings.
New images released on 22nd February 2026 show extensive interior renovations. As a result, Crown expects the theatre to host international performers, theatre residencies and major concerts.

Crown Towers’ lobby bar will undergo refurbishment and reopen early next year. In addition, Crown Metropol’s 28th floor will debut in May as a private events venue. The new space will offer panoramic city views and cater for weddings, corporate events and private functions.
Beyond hospitality and entertainment, Crown is investing in sustainability initiatives across its 500,000 square metre footprint. The program includes rooftop solar panels, battery storage and advanced energy-saving systems. Consequently, Crown projects a 23% reduction in carbon emissions by 2027, which it equates to removing 4,700 cars from Victorian roads annually.
Crown Melbourne CEO Ed Domingo said Victoria is well-positioned for growth and described the investment as the beginning of a new phase for the precinct.

“This significant investment in new dining, entertainment and the iconic Riverwalk will cement Crown’s place as the ultimate destination for food, fun, entertainment and late-night energy.
“Melburnians and our visitors have changed over the past 30 years – and this reimagining of our precinct ensures we continue to elevate our offering and deliver experiences fit for the next generation.”
Crown has operated in Southbank since 1994. The integrated resort attracts more than 26 million visitors annually and employs thousands of staff across hospitality, events and gaming operations. The precinct includes three hotels, conference facilities and a 24-hour casino featuring 540 gaming tables and more than 2,600 electronic gaming machines.
