Conversations Extend Flagship Debates and Town Halls

The Doha Debates Podcast, a project of the Qatar Foundation, airs weekly episodes every Tuesday until June 2. It invites leading global thinkers to discuss pressing societal questions, examining how these issues shape our world. Since its launch on January 6, the podcast series has expanded on themes first explored in Doha Debates’ flagship debates and global town halls. Each episode fosters cross-discipline and cross-regional discussions, promoting open and truth-seeking dialogue.

The latest episode, titled “Do conspiracy theories have any value?”, is moderated by Dareen Abughaida. It features discussions with Heather Berlin, Alex Berenson, Nuurrianti Jalli, and Andrea Kitta. They explore the impact of conspiracy theories, misinformation, and fake news on public discourse. Heather Berlin explains the cognitive appeal of conspiracy theories, noting, “Such narratives are inherently appealing because they create a sense of order and closure, making complex or uncertain realities feel coherent and understandable.” Nuurrianti Jalli highlights the role of digital platforms in spreading such content. She states, “Conspiracy-driven content fuels engagement on these platforms, directly contributing to their advertising revenue.”

In recent years, conspiracy theories have moved from fringe thinking to mainstream discourse. Claims about election meddling, public health, and the deep state circulate widely, often repeated by government officials. This episode asks if they have real value in a world where uncertainty is high and institutional accountability is low. Future episodes will address a diverse range of topics, including social justice movements, contemporary art, childlessness, and football. These discussions will continue to explore how cultural, social, and political changes are reshaping societies and identities worldwide.

Additional debates this season will examine how information ecosystems, media narratives, and emerging technologies influence public opinion, trust, and collective identity in an increasingly complex global landscape. Together, the season reflects Doha Debates’ commitment to creating space for thoughtful, truth-seeking dialogue—where complex issues are discussed openly and honestly.

The Doha Debates Podcast is available on major podcast platforms, YouTube, and at DohaDebates.com. It offers a platform for thoughtful global dialogue aimed at creating space for meaningful exchanges on the defining questions of our time. Weekly Tuesday releases continue to engage listeners with relevant and provocative discussions.
