Ballet Highlights and Creative Team Overview

Elastic Hearts, a contemporary ballet that reimagines the music of global pop sensation Sia, will make its debut in Brisbane. Audiences can catch this performance at the Thomas Dixon Centre, West End, from 30th April to 9th May 2026. Due to overwhelming demand, the show includes four additional performances on 30th April, 7th, 8th, and 9th May.

Garry Stewart, renowned for his innovative choreography, directs and choreographs the production. Elliott Wheeler, a Grammy Award nominee, provides the orchestral arrangements, which will be performed by the Queensland Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Nigel Gaynor. Set against a lush orchestral arrangement of Sia’s original tracks, Elastic Hearts is accessible, joyful, and deeply moving.

The ballet explores themes of connection and resilience, blending Stewart’s dynamic choreography with the emotive power of Sia’s music. Stewart describes Elastic Hearts as a creative response to the music of Sia Furler, the celebrated Australian artist originally from Adelaide and now based in LA. He remarks, “The track, Elastic Heart, speaks to the strength and resilience of the human heart and human relationships.”

Creative Team and Performance Details

The creative team for Elastic Hearts includes Charles Davies as the set and costume designer, Alexander Berlage handling lighting design, and Lou Cope serving as dramaturg. Daniel Jaber assists Stewart with choreography. The ballet promises a 660-minute runtime without an interval, offering audiences an uninterrupted experience.

Queensland Ballet’s Artistic Director, Ivan Gil-Ortega, highlights that Elastic Hearts showcases a new dimension of the company’s artistic capabilities. Unlike previous productions, this ballet introduces a visual design inspired by nature, with Gaia, the Greek goddess, as a central theme.

Tickets are now available for performances at the Talbot Theatre, Thomas Dixon Centre. The production has received critical acclaim, with The Australian hailing it as “ballet with a bang.” Arts Hub described it as a “dazzling collision of ballet and pop, inventive, joyous, and unabashedly fun.” Audiences can look forward to an inventive blend of ballet and pop music, likely to leave a lasting impression.

Elastic Hearts is a bold new collaboration by Queensland Ballet, presenting a novel take on Sia’s music through Garry Stewart’s visionary choreography. It marks a bold new chapter for Queensland Ballet, according to critics.
