Committee to examine AFP, CSIRO and ATO projects

The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Public Works will visit Melbourne on Wednesday, 8 July 2026 for site inspections and public hearings into three Commonwealth property projects.

The hearing will take place in the Bourke Room at Mantra on Russell, 222 Russell Street, Melbourne VIC 3000.

The three inquiries cover an Australian Federal Police fit-out at 949 Ann Street, Brisbane, a Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation upgrade at Building 302, Research Way, Clayton, and an Australian Taxation Office fit-out at Festival Tower 2, King William Road, Adelaide.

The AFP works are estimated at $89.3 million excluding GST, the ATO project at $73.4 million excluding GST, and the CSIRO upgrade at $18.27 million excluding GST.

For the AFP, the proposed Brisbane fit-out would add office space and technical and specialist areas. The project would replace the agency’s Northern Command Headquarters in Newstead and Fortitude Valley, Queensland.

CSIRO plans to upgrade and fit out Building 302 at Clayton with purpose-built laboratory facilities for staff moving from the Aspendale site in Victoria.

The CSIRO project is intended to support atmospheric and climate science capacity.

8 July 2026 hearing schedule

The public hearing schedule lists the ATO from 9:00 am to 10:15 am AEST, CSIRO from 11:00 am to 11:45 am AEST, and the AFP from 1:20 pm to 2:05 pm AEST.

In Adelaide, the ATO wants to fit out new leased premises at Festival Tower 2 to replace its current site in the Adelaide CBD. The agency says the move would support continued ATO operations in Adelaide.

Committee members will also inspect the CSIRO Aspendale site and AFP Southern Command in the Melbourne CBD. They will receive a private briefing from the ATO.

The committee will speak with members of the public who have raised concerns about the proposed ATO works.

Interested members of the public can listen live at aph.gov.au/live or attend in person at the Melbourne venue.

The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Public Works does not handle tendering, contract awards or detailed project delivery. Enquiries on those matters should go to the relevant Commonwealth entities.
