LAURA KING

One of the leading forces in Australia’s contemporary techno and trance scene, Laura King has spent the last decade building a sound that is unmistakably her own.

Known for high-voltage sets, hypnotic rhythms and fearless genre movement, Laura blends techno, trance, hard dance, groove, psychedelic influences and fast, driving club energy into sets designed to evolve with the dancefloor. Her style is intuitive, physical and technically sharp, often working across multiple decks with unexpected transitions and blends.

Her reputation has taken her from underground clubs and bush doofs to some of Australia’s biggest festival stages, including Ultra Australia, Beyond The Valley, Pitch Music & Arts, Festival X, Dreamstate, PURE Carl Cox and Strawberry Fields. She has also shared lineups with names including Carl Cox, Charlotte de Witte, Nina Kraviz, FJAAK, Hector Oaks and Boys Noize.

Beyond the booth, Laura is also the curator behind Overdrive, an artist-led event series built around techno, trance, rising BPMs and a music-first dancefloor culture.

Il Mercato Centrale, tucked right by Southern Cross, has quickly grown into a favourite for those who want to party in the heart of the city without the usual club pretence. Three separate rooms mean you can drift from pounding techno to something a bit groovier if you need a breather, and the sound is always punchy without being overwhelming. The crowd usually skews towards friendly regulars and city night owls, making it easy to lose a few hours on the dancefloor. This is best for anyone who loves techno, hard dance or just moving between different sounds under one roof. Compared to other Melbourne club nights, Eat The Beat is more about the music than posing, and Laura King’s set is likely to draw a loyal following plus a few first-timers. The late start means things don’t really kick off until after midnight, so pace yourself.

Insider tip
Entry is 18+ and security is strict with IDs-bring physical ID, not just digital.
