From the Mouth
A unique film and music project inspired by the landscapes, ecology and stories of the Kororoit Creek mouth.
Hosted by Hobsons Bay City Council - Arts Culture & Heritage
About this event
We love when westside stories get their due, and this event brings Laverton’s hidden corners and the Kororoit Creek to centre stage. Expect an evening where music, film and local voices meet, all shaped by the stories and scenery we too often drive past. It is a great reason to get to know this part of Melbourne a little better.
Bringing together seven local musicians, filmmakers and artists, the project explores the connection between people and place through creative storytelling. Drawing on the natural environment, local histories and community experiences of the Kororoit Creek area, each artist offers a different perspective on this significant waterway and its surrounding landscape.
Across two evenings of live music, short film screenings and community conversation, audiences are invited to experience new creative works that celebrate environmental awareness, cultural connection and the rich character of the local area.
The event also includes a facilitated discussion with participating artists and a Hobsons Bay City Council conservation officer, offering audiences the opportunity to learn more about the creative process, the ecological significance of the Kororoit Creek mouth, and the role art can play in strengthening our connection to place and community.
Featuring Bart Willoughby, Tina Kopa, Excelsior Maze, Leo Dale, John O’Hagan, Michael Havir and David Murphy.
Light refreshments will be provided by local trader Kolapasi Indian Kitchen.

Woods Street Arts Space has a welcoming, grassroots feel, with a real sense of community ownership. Events here feel personal, and you are as likely to chat with an artist as you are to see something thought-provoking. Laverton itself is unpretentious, and there’s a quiet pride in the creative projects that pop up in these neighbourhood spaces. If you are curious about the local environment or love hearing real stories from Melbourne’s suburbs, this is worth your Friday night. It is especially good for anyone keen on thoughtful music and film outside the city centre, and stands out because it zeroes in on a particular stretch of creek and the people who know it best.
