The Giving Closet – Fashion pop up fundraiser

A new Melbourne fashion initiative is turning fabulous designer clothes into something far more powerful.

The Giving Closet is a designer and contemporary fashion sale built around a simple idea: women supporting women. Melbourne women and fashion brands donate beautiful pieces they no longer want/wear, other women snap them up at accessible prices, and the profits support two charities helping women rebuild their lives.

Launching in Prahran this October, The Giving Closet will be packed with donated clothing, shoes, handbags and accessories, with most pieces priced under $150.

Among the extraordinary donations are hundreds of gowns from Australian designer Alex Perry, alongside pieces from a wide range of sought-after contemporary and designer labels. Think Zimmerman, Chanel, Prada, Scanlan, Aje to name a few.

The initiative was founded by Melbourne woman Lana Black, with profits split equally between Hope Network, which provides dignity, hope and purpose for women in and beyond prison, and the Centre for Women’s Economic Safety (CWES), which supports the financial safety of women experiencing economic abuse.

Great fashion gets another life rather than sitting unworn in wardrobes, while simultaneously raising money for women who need support.

The Giving Closet opens Friday 23 October at 27 Regent Street, Prahran, with a $25 priority-access session from 12 noon–3pm giving shoppers first pick of the racks. It will then open Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, 12 noon–3pm, for a limited run until sold out (est. 4-6 weeks).
