Push Against All-Gender Facilities Gains Momentum
Family First National Director Lyle Shelton announced on 14th May that candidates from the party will campaign to restore male and female toilets in public buildings in New South Wales and Victoria should they be elected in the upcoming state elections.
Shelton expressed concern over the increasing replacement of gender-specific toilets with all-gender facilities, citing privacy and safety issues for women and girls. He argued that political leaders are yielding to pressure from the LGBTQA+ lobby.
According to Shelton, “Politicians are caving in to the LGBTQA+ political lobby and pandering to men who think they are women and demand access to girls’ and women’s spaces.”
Campaign Against New Construction Code
Family First plans to challenge the provisions of the National Construction Code, which currently allow developers to substitute up to half of gender-specific toilets with all-gender options. Shelton insists this change is driven by activist groups, not the general public.
He commended the Australian Christian Lobby for raising awareness about the issue, noting that Tasmania has already removed such provisions from its code, while the Northern Territory rejected the code entirely.
Shelton stated, “It is not hateful to recognise biological reality or to defend the privacy rights of women and girls.” He emphasised that Family First aims to retain clearly designated male and female toilets in public spaces.
Family First candidates aim to influence policy decisions to ensure public buildings, schools, sporting venues, and shopping centres continue to offer gender-specific facilities.
Mr Shelton argues that the agenda of replacing gender-specific facilities has never been driven by ordinary Australians. He claims activist groups are working to normalise the concept that biological sex is irrelevant, leading to discomfort and exclusion for women and girls.
He highlighted that women and girls increasingly feel unsafe and uncomfortable in spaces meant for them, emphasizing the need for designated male and female toilets.
Family First’s initiative is part of a broader strategy to restore common sense and protect the rights and dignity of women and girls. The party is committed to ensuring that facilities remain clearly designated, providing safety and privacy.
