Katy Faust's Strategy Against Same-Sex Marriage
Katy Faust, a well-known advocate for children’s rights, will address the Family First National Conference in Sydney through a live video link from Seattle on 22nd August 2026. Her opposition to same-sex marriage and parenting is notable. She founded Them Before Us, a movement that advocates for children’s rights to both a mother and a father.
Family First National Director Lyle Shelton expressed excitement about hosting Faust. He highlighted her previous involvement during Australia’s 2017 marriage plebiscite campaign, saying, “Katy Faust has courageously articulated what millions of people instinctively know, that marriage is not primarily about adult desires but about the rights and wellbeing of children.”
Conference Focus on Children’s Rights
Shelton explained that Faust’s views resonate with many who believe marriage should focus on children’s rights. He criticised the ‘no difference’ thesis and argued it overlooks the unique contributions that mothers and fathers bring to parenting.
Shelton mentioned that the redefinition of marriage led to increased demands for surrogacy and IVF, which create intentionally motherless or fatherless children. He stressed the importance of having a mature national conversation on these issues. “Wherever possible, children should not be deliberately deprived of either parent through law and public policy,” Shelton remarked.
He also stated that Australians were denied a balanced debate during the 2017 marriage plebiscite. He suggested that a fairer discussion would have affected public support for same-sex marriage. “During the Voice referendum Australians finally saw what happens when both sides of an argument are properly aired and debated,” he said.
Faust’s appearance at the conference will give Australians the chance to hear arguments and evidence often excluded from mainstream discussion. Shelton noted that the push for same-sex marriage was not only about formalizing adult relationships but also led to demands for surrogacy and sperm donation.
The Family First National Conference will take place in Sydney on 22nd August. More details on speakers and ticketing are available on the Family First website.
