Controversial Remarks Spark Legislative Action

New South Wales parliament is set to debate a bill aimed at banning sex-selection abortion. This discussion follows controversial comments by US rapper Tekashi 6ix9ine during a livestreamed gender reveal event.

Lyle Shelton, National Director of Family First and a candidate for the NSW Legislative Council, is urging parliamentarians to support the bill introduced by John Ruddick. Shelton said, “This is a vile and shocking statement, but it exposes an ugly reality that abortion is increasingly being used as a tool of gender discrimination.”

Tekashi 6ix9ine, whose real name is Daniel Hernandez, stated, “If it’s not a boy, then it’s abortion,” sparking outrage and bringing attention to sex-selection abortions.

Research Highlights Gender Imbalances

Shelton pointed to research from Edith Cowan University showing male-biased birth imbalances in some Australian communities. The study revealed a notable skew towards male births among third-born children in migrant populations after two daughters.

He noted, “This research demolishes the claim that sex-selection abortion is not happening here,” emphasizing the need for legislative action to protect unborn girls.

Australia’s extreme abortion laws, Shelton explained, allow sex-selection abortion right up to birth. He warned that this legal situation could lead to aborting children solely based on their sex.

Shelton urged the public to support the upcoming Sydney Rally for Life, advocating for the passage of Ruddick’s bill. “Family First encourages all people of goodwill to attend and send a clear message to NSW MPs that gendercide has no place in Australia,” he stated.

The rally aims to raise awareness and gather support for the bill, reinforcing the message that “every child, boy or girl, has equal dignity and equal worth.” Shelton believes that girls deserve protection before birth just as much as after birth.

He emphasised, “A society that claims to champion women’s rights cannot remain silent when unborn girls are targeted for destruction simply because they are female.”
