Free Horsham session open to all farmers
Wimmera farmers can attend a free Financial Skills Workshop in Horsham on Thursday, July 23. Places are capped at 30, and the session is open to all farmers, not only Rabobank clients.
Hosted by the South Australian and north-west Victorian Rabo Client Council, the workshop will give hands-on help with farm business finance. Rabobank client councils lead and fund the programme.
Tony Hudson, director of Hudson Facilitation, will deliver the Horsham workshop. He will cover financial statements, banking requirements and core business measures.
Participants will also look at taxation versus management accounting, essential business management ratios and key parts of a business’s financial profile.

Rabobank state manager for South Australia Peter Evans said the workshop was designed “to help give farmers the financial skills and tools they need to help manage increasingly complex agricultural businesses”.
Evans said the session was tailored for farm owners and managers who want a stronger grasp of financial management requirements.
“Even experienced farmers may not fully understand all aspects of financial reporting and banking requirements, or may want to further build their business financial analysis skills,” Mr Evans said.
Evans encouraged couples and families to attend together. He said the sessions give farming families time away from day-to-day demands to build a shared understanding of financial reporting.
Since the programme launched in 2018, more than 5,400 farmers across Australia and New Zealand have attended Financial Skills Workshops.
Across Australia and New Zealand, Rabobank delivers the workshops through its Rabo Client Councils. Those councils are groups of Rabobank farming clients who back local projects.
Evans said the council network focuses on industry capacity, rural wellbeing and stronger rural-urban links. He also said long-term industry capacity and agricultural education remain key priorities.
With skilled labour still a challenge across Australia, the councils also want to help attract and retain people in agriculture, according to Evans.
