Gradiant wins West Texas AI data centre water contract

Gradiant has won a contract to deliver water and wastewater systems for a hyperscale AI data centre campus in West Texas, where limited water supplies are shaping how fast new facilities can be built.

The Boston-based company will provide a turnkey package covering potable water supply and wastewater treatment for the campus, which one of the world’s largest technology companies is developing.

Under the deal, Gradiant will act as a single accountable partner for both parts of the system. However, the company did not identify the customer, disclose the contract value or give a completion date.

According to Gradiant, the project adds to its water infrastructure work for AI data centres. It also supports what the company describes as one of the largest AI-driven, multi-billion-dollar investments under way in the United States.

In West Texas, water has become a major constraint on new AI infrastructure. Gradiant pointed to the region’s limited water resources as a key factor in where new capacity can be built.

Zero-discharge system for West Texas campus

For this site, Gradiant will use HyperSolved, its integrated cooling water platform for AI data centres. The platform combines treatment technologies, CURE Chemicals and SmartOps.

Nish Vora, Gradiant’s managing director for the Americas, said the company is delivering the site’s full water and wastewater system with zero discharge to surface water.

Vora said the project faces one of the tightest schedules and toughest water constraints the company has seen. He linked that work to Gradiant’s existing presence in Texas.

Prakash Govindan, Gradiant’s chief executive, said water-scarce regions are where the next wave of hyperscale growth is happening and many operators do not yet have a way to build there.

He said the West Texas project shows hyperscalers can build in those markets without water becoming the reason they cannot proceed.

As a result, Gradiant argues that zero-surface-discharge systems could shape future AI infrastructure in water-constrained regions. The company said the design offers a model for balancing computing growth with water stewardship.

Founded at MIT and headquartered in Boston, Gradiant builds water systems for chips, data centres, energy and industry. Meanwhile, the new contract expands the company’s data centre portfolio built around HyperSolved.

Gradiant described the deal as reinforcing its role in water systems for AI data centres.
