Art Basel Collaboration Brings Digital Art to Streets
HONG KONG — The Hong Kong Tourism Board has unveiled the ‘Hong Kong Mega 8’ campaign, showcasing the city as the ‘Events Capital of Asia’. The initiative, announced on March 25, 2026, features eight major events in arts, pop culture, and sports, drawing international visitors to explore the city’s vibrant cultural scenes.
According to Dr. Peter Lam, Chairman of HKTB, the campaign is designed to highlight Hong Kong’s strengths in hosting large-scale events. ‘For the first time, we are partnering with Art Basel to bring digital arts into local neighbourhoods,’ he stated. This collaboration aims to enhance visitor experiences and boost the local economy.
Diverse Art Experiences Across the City
Art Basel Hong Kong is set to debut the ‘Zero 10’ initiative, featuring digital artworks from global artists, including South Korean digital artist DeeKay. His work, ‘DeePle the People’, will be projected in Central, offering a public art experience. Dr. Lam emphasised the importance of such partnerships in promoting cultural tourism.
In addition to the digital art projections, the campaign includes a variety of cultural events across the city. ‘ArtHouse Tai Hang 2026’ transforms historic houses into art hubs, while ‘Art Walk in Central’ offers guided tours and art encounters. West Kowloon’s world-class museums also present new exhibitions, such as ‘Lee Bul: From 1998 to Now’ at M+.
The announcement comes amid a growing trend of cities leveraging cultural events to attract tourists. As cities worldwide compete to host international events, Hong Kong‘s strategic focus on arts and culture aims to set it apart as a premier destination for global travellers.
