International Cat Day brings new Victoria cat hub

International Cat Day events include hub opening and trivia

The Cat Protection Society of Victoria will open its new Nurture and Enrichment Hub on Saturday 8 August for International Cat Day.

CPSV linked the 8 August launch to fundraising events and community activities focused on feline wellbeing, adoption and support for vulnerable cats.

The Nurture and Enrichment Hub is a low-stress sanctuary for cats that need extra care, more time and behavioural support before adoption.

According to CPSV, many cats arrive timid, fearful or overwhelmed, and some have had little positive human contact before entering care.

Other cats struggle in a busy shelter environment, so CPSV created the Hub to give them a calmer setting before adoption.

CPSV Marketing and Communications Manager Rachel Bitzilis said the new space aims to help those cats settle and build confidence.

Rachel Bitzilis said, “The new Nurture and Enrichment Hub has been created to provide a calm, low-stress space focused on tailored enrichment, gentle socialisation and individual behavioural support to help the cats in our care to be settled and suitable for adoption.”

She called the 8 August opening an important milestone in CPSV’s work to improve welfare outcomes for cats needing specialised care.

Rachel Bitzilis also said some cats do not arrive ready for adoption on day one and need time, patience and the right environment.

Purr-suit of Knowledge at Welcome to Thornbury

A key fundraiser is the Purr-suit of Knowledge International Cat Day Trivia Party on Friday 7 August at Welcome to Thornbury.

The 7 August event will bring together cat lovers, CPSV supporters and trivia enthusiasts for general knowledge rounds and feline-themed fun.

Funds from the International Cat Day campaign will support the Hub, including enrichment resources, behavioural support and specialised care for cats and kittens.

Victorians can also back CPSV through donations and sponsorships for climbing structures, bedding, sensory toys, scratching posts and interactive resources.

Those items help improve feline wellbeing and confidence for cats and kittens in CPSV care across Victoria.

Rachel Bitzilis said, “International Cat Day is an opportunity to celebrate cats, while also recognising those who need a little extra support.”

Meanwhile, CPSV is urging the public to attend events, donate or share the campaign so more cats can move toward adoption.

Tickets for the Purr-suit of Knowledge trivia event are available, and tax-deductible donations for the Nurture and Enrichment Hub are open.
