Community Unites for Brain Health and Awareness

Last weekend, more than 930 people gathered at the 2026 Perth Memory Walk & Jog, raising an impressive $172,181 to support those affected by dementia. The event, held in Perth, encouraged participants to walk, run, or jog, thereby promoting brain health while supporting Dementia Australias initiatives.

Professor Tanya Buchanan, CEO of Dementia Australia, expressed gratitude for the communitys involvement, stating, “There was an incredible turnout from the Perth community this year yet again, in support of the many people impacted by dementia across the country.” She emphasised the significance of community support, noting that it helps raise both funds and awareness for dementia.

Volunteers and Participants Drive Success

The dedicated volunteers played a crucial role by ensuring a safe and enjoyable experience for all attendees. Professor Buchanan acknowledged their contributions, highlighting that “The day was only possible through the hard work of our wonderful volunteers who always make Memory Walk & Jog a safe, fun and memorable experience for everyone who takes part.”

This event was part of a series of 14 Memory Walk & Jog events held across Australia in 2026. Each event provides an opportunity for people impacted by dementia and their supporters to unite, share stories, and raise money. Participants of all fitness levels are encouraged to join.

For those who missed the event, Dementia Australia offers the ‘MyWay’ initiative, allowing individuals to organise their own walks or jogs at any chosen date and location.

Dementia Australia continues to support over 446,500 Australians living with dementia and their caregivers. The organisation advocates for positive change and vital research in the field. An interpreter service is available for those in need.
