Australian Flat Iron Steak Hits Shelves

Coles introduces a 100% Australian No Added Hormones Beef Flat Iron Steak to its supermarket shelves across Australia from 23rd June. This launch follows its feature on MasterChef Australia, where contestants used this cut in a culinary challenge.

The flat iron steak gained significant attention on Monday night’s MasterChef episode. Coles Ambassador and Michelin-starred chef Curtis Stone challenged contestants to prepare dishes using the versatile cut within 60 minutes.

Contestants showcased the steak’s potential with creative dishes. Vinnie’s Flat Iron Two Ways included Tartare with Crispy Potato and Hibachi-Grilled Flat Iron with Salsa Verde. Pat’s creation featured Barbecue Flat Iron Steak with Cheesy Polenta, Tomato & Bread Salad, and Green Herb Sauce.

Now, Australians can recreate the experience at home, with the steak available in Coles supermarkets nationwide on Tuesday 23 June. The product gives customers the opportunity to get inspired in their own kitchens. Karen O’Connor, Coles General Manager of Meat, Deli, Seafood & Convenience, stated, “At Coles, we’re always looking for ways to bring exciting new products to our customers. We’re proud to be the first major supermarket to range flat iron steak nationally.”

Curtis Stone Praises the Steak

Curtis Stone emphasised the steak’s appeal, saying, “The flat iron steak is one of Australia’s best-kept beef secrets. It’s incredibly tender, packed with rich beef flavour, and has beautiful marbling.” He highlighted its versatility, adding, “Whether grilling it on the barbecue or cooking it in a hot pan, it’s a fantastic steak that delivers every time.”

Tamar Hovagimian, Director of National Advertising Partnerships at Paramount Australia, mentioned that the partnership connects Australians with the food they see on screen. “One of the things audiences love most about MasterChef Australia is discovering new ingredients and techniques that inspire them in their own kitchens,” Hovagimian explained.

The Coles Australian No Added Hormones Beef Flat Iron Sharing Steak is available from Tuesday 23 June in store and online at Coles supermarkets nationally for $36 per kilogram while stocks last. Australians now have the chance to recreate MasterChef-inspired dishes at home.
