Supporting the Future of Nursing with Education

The Australian College of Nursing (ACN) Foundation is set to host an exciting event on Sunday, 17th May 2026, in Brisbane. This grand celebration marks International Nurses Day and aims to bring together nursing leaders, community figures, and supporters. The event seeks to advance the nursing profession by uniting these influential individuals.

Fundraising for the Bullwinkel Scholars Programme will be a key focus of the luncheon. This programme is crucial as it offers leadership education for nurses in rural, remote, military, and First Nations communities across Australia. By supporting this cause, attendees contribute to the future of nursing leadership.

The event promises a vibrant atmosphere with live music, a panel discussion, a fashion parade, and engaging activities like raffles and auctions. These events are designed not only to entertain but also to support a worthy cause.

Highlights of the Panel Discussion

Liz Murrihy will host the event. She will lead a discussion with several prominent speakers. Adjunct Professor Shelley Nowlan, former Deputy National Rural Health Commissioner and Chief Nursing Officer for Queensland, will participate. She will share her insights on the evolving nursing landscape.

Dr. Zachary Byfield, the National Director of Nursing Education at ACN, will also join the panel. He will discuss the impact of educational advancements on healthcare delivery. His insights will be pivotal in understanding future challenges and opportunities in nursing.

Major Bree Looker, a Bullwinkel Scholarship recipient for 2025, will share her experiences and the importance of leadership education in her career. Arun Thomas, Chair of the ACN Foundation Fundraising Committee and a scholarship recipient, will offer additional perspectives on the program’s significance.

The event will take place at the Grand Ballroom of the Tattersalls Club in Brisbane, running from 11:00 am to 4:30 pm. Tickets are priced at $140, providing attendees the opportunity to support the future of nursing while participating in this meaningful event.

Support from key partners such as Bank First, Guild Insurance, HESTA, and the Tattersalls Club is crucial in ensuring the event’s success. These organisations play a significant role in supporting the initiatives that benefit the nursing community.
