Are you an experienced industrial relations practitioner with a strong track record in industrial advocacy and strategic industrial leadership? Do you want to play a leading role in shaping national industrial outcomes for health and community services workers?
If so – an exciting opportunity is available at the Health Services Union’s national office for a full-time Senior National Industrial Officer.
Organisational Context
The Health Services Union (HSU) is one of Australia’s fastest growing unions, with over 120,000 members. Our members are at the forefront of nation-changing reforms across aged care, disability services, and the public, private, and mental health systems.
The HSU is comprised of eight branches, and the role of HSU National is to coordinate and support the union’s national industrial and strategic priorities. Through national campaigns, industrial advocacy, and policy development, we work to strengthen the collective power of HSU members and ensure they have a strong voice in the debates that shape their working lives and communities.
The Role
The Senior National Industrial Officer is a senior leadership position with HSU National, responsible for driving the union’s national industrial strategy and providing high-level industrial and legal advice to union leadership across the country.
Reporting directly to the HSU National Secretary and working as part of a small, high-performing team, the successful applicant will assume responsibility for the HSU’s national modern award matters, including major proceedings before the Fair Work Commission concerning wages, classification structures, and gender-based undervaluation. The role also includes coordination of strategic industrial campaigns, and engagement with key stakeholders including other unions and peak bodies, employers, employer associations, advocacy organisations, and government representatives and regulators.
The Senior National Industrial Officer will also provide strategic support to HSU branches nationally, facilitate cross-branch industrial coordination, and contribute to the development and mentoring of industrial staff.
