Event Highlights Systemic Issues in Incarceration

Justice Dina Yehia, a Justice of the Supreme Court of New South Wales, will deliver the keynote address at the 10th Annual Keeping Women Out of Prison (KWOOP) Parliamentary Breakfast. This significant event will occur on Thursday, 4 June 2026, in Sydney. The breakfast will take place at the Strangers’ Dining Room in NSW Parliament House, Macquarie Street.

More than 270 attendees are expected, including parliamentarians, leaders, advocates, and judicial officers. They will gather to address the systemic issues affecting women’s incarceration in New South Wales. The event is hosted by the KWOOP Coalition, a sub-fund of the Sydney Community Foundation, with funding from the Judith Neilson Foundation. The coalition promotes evidence-based solutions to drive meaningful changes in the criminal justice system.

Key Attendees and Event Schedule

From 7:30 am to 9:15 am, 20 Members of Parliament will attend the breakfast. Notable attendees include The Hon. Jodie Harrison MP, The Hon. Natasha Maclaren-Jones MLC, and The Hon. Anoulack Chanthivong. Other attendees such as The Hon. Yasmin Catley and The Hon. Kate Washington are also expected. The Hon. Penny Sharpe will also be present, highlighting the broad political support for this initiative.

Justice Yehia will focus her address on the urgent need for reform and adequate support for women impacted by the justice system. Her speech aims to inspire action and awareness among the attendees. According to KWOOP, the event marks a critical opportunity for stakeholders to collaborate and discuss strategies to reduce women’s incarceration rates. It aims to shine a light on the challenges and explore potential solutions.
