Innovative Non-Electronic Design Reduces Costs

On June 22, 2026, Leggett Dynamics launched its Mid-Class Massage System (MCM) in Detroit, Michigan. This breakthrough non-electronic innovation aims to extend premium massage experiences beyond just luxury vehicles, making them accessible to a wider range of consumers.

MCM features a compact 30 x 35 mm module using the Coandă effect, where air jets naturally follow curved surfaces. This design eliminates the need for electronics or moving parts, reducing complexity and costs, making it feasible for mid-range vehicle segments.

According to Julien Rea, VP of Global Innovation & Engineering, “Automakers must balance innovation, speed, and cost while consumers expect more personalized, affordable, premium experiences. Leggett Dynamics’ Mid-Class Massage System redefines what’s possible with a breakthrough approach that simplifies design, enables plug-and-play integration, and makes premium comfort accessible to more vehicles beyond the luxury segment.”

Collaboration and Industry Recognition

Early collaboration with OEMs facilitated MCM’s rapid transition from concept to production. Its stand-alone, non-electronic design allows for seamless integration into vehicle updates, avoiding the need for costly electronic revalidation. This innovation helps automakers add comfort features efficiently.

MCM’s innovative design and collaborative development with OEMs earned it a spot on the shortlist for the 2026 Automotive Tech Partnership Award. This recognition highlights the system’s industry-leading innovation and the power of close OEM collaboration. Additional industry awards are also being considered for MCM later this year.

Julien Rea emphasised the importance of early co-development in aligning advanced concepts with cost targets. “Helping automakers balance cutting-edge innovation, speed, and cost is exactly why early co-development matters,” he said.

Leggett Dynamics showcased MCM at the Automotive Engineering Expo in Nagoya, Japan, and plans to feature it at the Automotive Interiors Expo Europe in Stuttgart, Germany, from June 23 to 25 at Booth #3216. These events demonstrate the company’s commitment to innovation and industry engagement.

The system’s ability to be integrated as an “island solution” without requiring extensive updates to vehicle electronics is a key advantage. This feature allows OEMs to quickly enhance vehicle comfort without significant redesign efforts.

Part of Leggett & Platt, Incorporated, Leggett Dynamics represents its automotive businesses, focusing on creating innovative solutions that meet market demands for quality and affordability.
