NGV Friday Nights Return with Art, Music and Style

Immerse yourself in Melbourne’s iconic NGV Friday Nights experience

When the sun sets on Melbourne, the National Gallery of Victoria turns into one of the city’s most exciting evening destinations. NGV Friday Nights transform the gallery into a buzzing cultural playground where world-class art meets live music, cocktails and fine food.

Running every Friday evening from 6 pm to 10 pm at NGV International on St Kilda Road, this series invites visitors to experience the gallery in an entirely new way – after dark, with a drink in hand and a soundtrack to match.

A Night of Art and Atmosphere

This season, the NGV celebrates French Impressionism from the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, featuring more than 100 masterpieces from Monet, Renoir, Degas and others. Visitors can wander through rooms filled with light and colour, experiencing the evolution of a movement that changed art forever.

The atmosphere is far from your usual quiet gallery visit. The Great Hall fills with live music spanning everything from indie and electronic to soul and jazz, giving every Friday a unique personality. Expect headline sets from emerging local artists alongside well-known performers, each bringing their own flair to the gallery’s stunning stained-glass backdrop.

Eat, Drink and Enjoy

A big part of the NGV Friday Nights experience is indulgence. The Moët & Chandon Champagne Bar keeps glasses full, while the Yering Station Wine Bar serves Yarra Valley favourites. If you’re after something sweet, the Häagen-Dazs ice-cream cart is always a hit.

Food lovers can grab a bite at the Gallery Kitchen, which offers a curated seasonal menu inspired by the exhibition’s French influence. Expect modern Australian dishes with a Parisian twist, perfect for pre-show dining or a late-night snack between sets.

Why It’s a Must-Do

There’s something magnetic about NGV Friday Nights. It’s where Melbourne’s art, fashion and music crowds collide – where you can appreciate a Monet one moment and dance under the kaleidoscopic light of the Great Hall the next.

The event perfectly captures Melbourne’s love for culture and creativity, offering an experience that’s both sophisticated and fun. Whether it’s a date night, catch-up with friends or a solo evening of inspiration, this is one of the city’s most rewarding ways to start the weekend.
