Review: CHA CHING Delivers Big Flavours And Value

CHA CHING marks four years in Melbourne with a Feed Me Now menu built around generous Asian fusion, bold cocktails and strong value
CHA CHING is entering its fourth year of serving some of the best Asian fusion food that Melbourne diners keep coming back for.

We opted for the Feed Me Now menu and were thoroughly impressed—so much so that I was annoyed at myself for not visiting sooner.

For 2 people, you get 2 starters, 2 mains and 1 side. $49.90 for lunch and $54.90 for dinner.

It’s quite rare to enjoy every plate that comes out, but Cha Ching on this night made that happen.

I can never resist sashimi; I must’ve had every Asian fusion restaurant’s sashimi across Melbourne. For me, unintentionally, it sets the tone of how the dishes will come out.

The salmon sashimi starter won me. It was fresh, a generous size, well presented with dollops of Whipped coconut cream and dill, I loved it.

From there, the momentum continued. The twice-cooked lamb ribs were perfectly spiced and falling off the bone.

For mains, we chose the steak. It isn’t served with a doneness preference, which I didn’t mind, But it’s worth noting for anyone who prefers their steak rare or well-done.

The thai coconut curry with Japanese pumpkin is a winner too, creamy, spicy bliss.

After chatting with friends about how much we enjoyed our experience, a few things became clear: generous portions, an extensive menu, consistently busy crowds, and pricing that’s refreshingly approachable.

The creative and visually stunning cocktail list, with its spicy and bold flavours, makes CHA CHING a popular destination for celebrations. During our meal alone, three tables broke into birthday songs, adding to the lively atmosphere.

Melbourne is no stranger to Asian fusion restaurants, but after dining at CHA CHING, I’ve reshuffled my personal rankings. This is a venue that’s going the extra mile, delivering great food, vibrant energy, and excellent value in equal measure.

Owner and Head Chef Ken Leung, who spent three years developing CHA CHING, is one of Melbourne’s hospitality success stories.

With both CHA CHING and the sleek, glamorous LEXY Restaurant on Flinders Lane already under his belt, Leung has firmly established himself as a name to watch in Melbourne’s dining scene. With another venue on the way, there’s plenty of anticipation about what he’ll do next.
