Parliamentary Friends of Nursing event in Mural Hall
Nurses and midwives will gather at Parliament House on Tuesday 30 June for live clinical demonstrations of work across hospitals, aged care and community services.
At the Mural Hall, the Parliamentary Friends of Nursing event will bring together the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Federation and nursing and midwifery leaders from across Australia.
Organisers will use the hands-on programme to show the clinical capabilities of Australia’s largest health workforce and its growing role in community care.
Displays will include advanced assessment and injury management skills, street healthcare services, remote care technology, aged care innovations and regional and remote healthcare models.
According to the ANMF, the demonstrations will focus on nurse-led and midwife-led models of care and their effect on health outcomes when staff work to full scope of practice.
ANMF Federal Secretary Annie Butler said, “Nurses and midwives are at the frontline of healthcare and are uniquely placed to identify community needs and deliver innovative, person-centred solutions.”
Butler said the 30 June event would showcase the professions’ skills, knowledge and expertise across health and aged care.
Women’s Health Mobile Clinic
One example on show is the Women’s Health Mobile Clinic in rural and regional Victoria.
Its nurses provide sexual and reproductive health care, general wellbeing care, and cervical and bowel screenings for women and adolescents.
That clinic is used in the event as a regional and remote healthcare model aimed at closing gaps in access to care.
Meanwhile, other exhibits will cover street healthcare services and remote care technology for patients who need care when and where they need it.
Butler said, “Australia’s health and aged care challenges require innovative, new models of care – and nurses and midwives must be part of the solution.”
